About the Artist

Karin S. Billings is a painter working in acrylics and oils. She specializes in impressionist landscapes and florals. She also likes painting expressionist-style figures. As a life long supporter of animal rights Karin has pledged a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her artwork to organizations such as the Sarasota County Humane Society and Animal Angels.  Born in Hamburg, Germany, Karin lives part of the year in Germany and most of the year in Sarasota, Florida, USA.

Studio hours are by appointment.

Career Highlights

 

Riding

Karin began riding horses and studying Dressage (occasionally referred to as “Horse Ballet”) at age ten and has been competing successfully since 1960. She became a professional instructor and traveled internationally giving clinics and judging competitions. She also trained two horses for famed opera star Luciano Pavarotti, among other distinguished clientele.

From 1972-1976, Karin Schlüter belonged to the A-Cadre Dressage national team in Germany. Her accomplishments with her horse Liostro include:

Participation in two Olympic Games 1972 – 1976 (Silver Medal in 1972)
Gold Medal World Championship 1974
Gold Medal European Championships 1973 and 1975
Gold Medal German Championships 1971, 1973, 1974, and 1975

In the United States:

Grand-Prix Horse of the Year with Amazonas 1987
Participated in Olympic Trials in 1992 as a citizen of the USA

 

Ball Room Dancing

Karin moved on to ballroom dancing and participated in and won a number of national championships.


Golf

Karin has competed in and won a number of amateur golf tournaments including championships at the Laurel Oak Country Club and The Founders Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida. In 2002 she was named the women’s golfer of the year by The Senior Golfers of America Association.

She is mentioned in the book Chronology of Women’s History by Kirstin Olsen (Greenwood Press, 1994), “...an international chronology of 5000 notable women who lived from 20,000 B.C. to 1993.”
